THE COMPETITION

Theodul Pass (Colle del Teodulo) Ski equipment required

The first teams will reach this point at around 6.30 a.m. This is a transition point. The Theodul Pass can be reached by descending from the Plateau Rosà.

Breithorn Col – only for public equipped with skis

First cut-off checkpoint time: +3 ore from the start. Teams arriving after the cut-off time will be stopped from going on. Refreshments are available here for the teams. The athletes rope themselves together.

IMPORTANT: Once you go beyond the Breithorn Col, you are in high-Alpine terrain where there is a high risk of coming across crevasses; consequently, those going further up must be equipped with a rope, crampons and ice-axe. You may move around freely but you are kindly requested to leave the trail when you see one of the race teams approaching.

MOUNTAIN HUTS

All those who reach the Guide della Val d’Ayas, Quintino Sella, Gnifetti, Mantova and Orestes Hutte refuges in the days leading up to the competition are free to watch the race and cheer on the athletes, as long as they are careful not to get in their way and/or disrupt the race.

Quintino Sella Hut: checkpoint cut-off time (+6 hours after the start)

GRESSONEY VALLEY: arrival point of the GREAT WHITE MARATHON

Lift system will open at 6 a.m. Special price for the return ticket until 8 a.m. ( € 5,00)

You can ride up to the PUNTA INDREN and from there reach the Mantova Hut (Rifugio Mantova) in about an hour. Here athletes have another equipment change and refreshments. Teams are un-roped and start their descent towards the finishing line in Gressoney.

GABIET – can be reached by cable car from Staffal. Here you can watch the athletes descending on skis. The first team is expected to arrive around 10.30 a.m.

The presence of the public is extremely welcome: at any point along the course, a word of encouragement can encourage athletes who may be struggling and spur them on to finish the race.

Many thanks to all those who will be coming to watch the Trophy, and thanks also to those who intend to come and cheer the youth competition on Friday 26.
